Reviewing Our Highlights Of 2021

As we fast approach Christmas, however your plans for the festive might be continuing to evolve, it is always a good time of year to reflect and take stock. Whilst the pandemic has and continues to dominate the news agenda, many businesses in the wider home improvement sector have been experiencing exceptional demand over the course of this year.

In our case, 2021 has been a year of record growth and sustained sales success for David Salisbury, whilst effectively managing supply chain pressure along with the need to ensure safe Covid working practices at all times. So here are just some of our highlights of another extraordinary year, designing and building orangeries and garden rooms all around the country.

2021 highlights

We started the year with a bang with enquiry levels at record highs, a hugely positive indicator of what was to come. Our new brand video premiered on New Year’s Day and was a foretaste of the regular new video content we produced over the year, covering subjects from the quality of oak we use to construct our oak orangeries through to the success of our commercial building at Millets Farm.

As we hit February, our latest brochure landed, with impeccable timing as interest in new orangery and conservatory projects continued well above the curve. David Salisbury won the 2021 Best of Houzz Design Award, the fifth time we have been honoured this accolade in the past six years.

Lockdown in the early part of the year gave us the opportunity to refresh and re-decorate our orangery showroom at The Chelsea Gardener, during March, which continues to look as inviting as ever.

Inspirational Partner Brands

Working with our friends at ufurnish.com, the furniture and furnishings website that’s revolutionising the way we search and compare things for our home, we published a number of joint articles packed full of inspirational ideas to furnish your orangery, garden room or conservatory.

In May, we teamed up with Artisans of Devizes, not only to recommend each other’s market-leading products, but also to share some inspirational articles for each company’s websites and social media channels.

By Summer, our friends at Neville Johnson had shared some great advice on how to maximise space and functionality in an orangery with clever use of fitted furniture.

G7 Summit Destination

When it comes to selecting a single highlight of this year, successfully completing the orangery at the Carbis Bay Hotel and seeing it front and centre as part of the G7 summit, is going to take some beating.

As the world’s leaders gathered for photocalls outside the orangery, it was an honour that an example of British craftsmanship and manufacturing excellence was chosen as the backdrop.

Growth & Investment

During the Summer months, restrictions started to lift and lockdown had ended but, but demand for bespoke orangeries and garden rooms continued to flourish. Our living spaces remained hugely important to us but we also saw an increase in how we could use our homes and gardens to entertain friends and family, with outdoor kitchens and the theme of indoor/outdoor living still growing.

We announced a significant recruitment drive around most areas of the business, in line with our record order book. In parallel to this, the second half of our machinery investment programme was delivered, the culmination of more than £1.2m worth of capital expenditure over the past 12 months. These new CNC machines help ensure we stay at the very forefront of joinery technologies here in the UK, as we continue to upgrade our hi-tech manufacturing facility.

Always Moving Forward

As we entered the final quarter of the year, our sales designer team remained as busy as ever, covering home design appointments from London to Liverpool and from Bristol to Bromley. Interest in our wooden orangeries and conservatories grew across every platform and channel, as we exceeded 10,000 followers on Instagram in October.

We announced a partnership with Appeal Home Shading, the leading manufacturer and installer of home shading solutions – as orangery and conservatory blinds specialists, this was another important brand partnership.

Our recruitment drive expanded to include new installation teams and we took a moment to review some notable orangery designs that went beyond the everyday, from pool buildings to garden offices and entrance halls.

Looking Ahead to 2022

That’s just some of our favourite highlights from a year that we will never forget. We already have a number of exciting developments in the pipeline for 2022 and look forward to sharing more of our news via these pages and our social media channels.

In the meantime, can we take this opportunity to wish everyone connected to David Salisbury a very happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.
