Having been shortlisted for the Large Business Award (for companies with more 50 employees) in the Sedgemoor Business Excellence Awards 2019, we attended last night’s Gala dinner with fingers crossed and high hopes. After a record-breaking 2018, it was an appropriate time to enter these awards – as a UK market-leader and innovator, as well as a substantial local employer, the last 12 months have been a time of sustained excellence for David Salisbury Joinery!
As the evening counted down and the other categories were announced and awarded, it came to our turn. Hearing our company profile and business description read out to an audience representing the best of business in the local area, it already felt like we had won regardless of the result.
Then the big reveal…..and we were announced as….winners!
Managing Director Wes Kangurs was on hand to collect our prize, alongside Sales Director Karen Bell and HR Advisor Claire Byrne. With Wes having recently assumed the role of MD, it is obviously hugely satisfying and testament to the whole team that the award-winning tradition set by David himself is carrying on – #teamwork!
Over the duration of the evening, it was interesting to hear about local success stories such as Sopha, which has recently opened just up the road from us in Highbridge – and, of course, which features our timber sash windows as part of the restoration of the former George Hotel.
We also shared a table with Presona and spent time with Offsite Solutions, another leading local business.
Whilst rubbing shoulders with these other leading local businesses, it was a good moment to take stock of our own achievements. As a business, David Salisbury has been market leader at the quality end of the timber orangery and conservatory sector here in the UK for some several years now. 2018, however, saw the best set of financial results in the company’s history with record annual profits and, after a very successful final quarter for new sales, a record order book.
To win the Sedgemoor Business Excellence Award in the Large Business Category was another milestone in the development and progress of our company.
Thanks to the organisers and we look forward to returning and perhaps winning again!
