Weather like this makes us glad to be home!
2 March 2018
In these times of what feels like unusually high levels of snow and bad weather, we are certainly glad of the comforts of our home environment. The current weather has brought us the unprecedented occurrence of two red weather levels in different parts of the country over the past two days.
Indeed, this Blog is being written from a home office with the joy of intermittent power cuts and a rapidly diminishing supply of heating oil(!). But whilst it might not feel like it now, according to data from The Met Office, snow is becoming a rarer weather event here in the UK. One study shows there was double the amount of days with snow falling during the period from 1961 to 1990, as there was from 1991 to 2010.
Obviously everything is relative and different areas are affected in different ways. One thing that remains constant though is our love for our homes and improving them by adding an extension like an orangery or conservatory.
We are often seen as a country obsessed with our property. Researching this article, it seems that the average Briton will redecorate their home 36 times in their lifetime, according to one piece of research. On this basis, this analysis found a typical Brit will spend almost two years of their lives decorating.
It also shows how quickly we grow bored of our interiors, with over half of us apparently planning on giving our home a makeover within the next 12 months. The most common project is simply to get a paintbrush and rollers out to change the colour of a particular room.
Rather than spending time redecorating on a regular basis, how about simply taking in the views of your garden and the surrounding landscape? With the changing seasons and times of day providing an endless source of visual inspiration, you’ll never grow bored of your exterior scenery.
So whilst we’re waiting for Spring and dreaming of Summer, we recommend enjoying your home from the comfort of your garden room, orangery or oak framed extension.
And if the snow might prevent us from doing much, it’s a good time to be enjoying the comfort of our home – and if you want some inspirational reading, take a look at our ever popular case studies or take the next step and order our brochure. If it’s safe to do so, you can always visit our London showroom at The Chelsea Gardener, which is open today and throughout this weekend as normal.
Stay warm and safe!
