This orangery kitchen extension was much more than just a case of creating more space for a new kitchen: it was about transforming this family home in Surrey into a modern, more practical living space, with a touch of luxury – something that was completed with the addition of a stunning bespoke kitchen from our partners at Tom Howley.
Successful home transformations are the type of project for which Eddie Spillane, one of David Salisbury’s most experienced sales designers, specialises in.
The starting point for this challenging, but ultimately extremely rewarding, design brief was the limitations of the layout of the customer’s existing home: the original kitchen layout and a poorly designed pocket tiled roof extension that simply did not function effectively.
As the ‘before’ photo above shows, the space was disjointed and therefore limited its functional use, as well as the possibilities with regard to furniture and room layout.
Eddie’s design vision was much more than simply adding a bespoke orangery to create more space for the rear of the home. In order to create the type of space that Eddie envisaged, the design required the extension of the existing kitchen wall which allowed the orangery to extend past what would have been an outside door to the garage.
This meant an L-shaped orangery design was required, whilst moving access to the garage / utility into the new orangery itself. A substantially bigger opening was created from the new kitchen into the orangery, producing the type of open plan space that continues to remain on trend.
But it was not just the back of the house that was the focus of this project. As you previously walked into this property, the original view from entrance hall to kitchen was blocked with a wall between the kitchen and garden. Eddie designed a new opening along with a one and a half door width to make a more inviting entrance with views through to the orangery kitchen extension, which allowed in more natural light.
David Salisbury works in partnership with Tom Howley Kitchens and this is yet another example of a successful project that both companies have been involved in.
