At David Salisbury, we pride ourselves on creating bespoke orangeries that blend timeless elegance with modern craftsmanship.
When it came to extending this Hampshire home, this project was all about collaboration, perfectly incorporating the vision of our client, an increasingly influential interior designer, with the experience of our designer Eddie Spillane.
This resulted in a stunning orangery that serves as the heart of our client’s home – a perfect blend of structure and sophisticated style.
our Client’s Vision
When our client (Urquhart Interiors) approached us, they had a clear vision for their orangery: it needed to be an extension of their home that would seamlessly link the interior and exterior, enhancing the flow between indoor and outdoor living.
As an interior designer, our client had a discerning eye for detail, and her passion for impeccable design was evident from the outset, alongside her expertise in designing interiors with plants.
The desire was to create a space that was functional for family living, while also serving as a sophisticated backdrop for entertaining and showcasing our client’s evolving taste in interiors.
Eddie Spillane, with his wealth of experience and ability to listen to the most diverse range of design briefs, was the perfect designer for the task. He worked closely with our client to understand their specific needs and aspirations for the space, ensuring that the design was tailored to their lifestyle and aesthetic preferences.
I designed the interior of our orangery to be adaptable and allow me scope to keep changing up the décor according to the seasons..!
The Design Process
The initial design process was collaborative, with Eddie meticulously planning the layout and structure of the orangery to meet both practical and aesthetic needs. Given the client’s refined sense of style, it was essential that the orangery’s architecture integrated seamlessly with the existing property.
The design of the orangery, with its floor to ceiling windows, provides views over the garden (carefully designed and planted by our client to complement the orangery) and has also given the opportunity to use the light-filled space to experiment with various houseplants, which have literally breathed life into the orangery interior design.
David Salisbury’s orangeries blend traditional craftsmanship with the very best modern construction materials, meaning the final design reflected both classical elegance and contemporary functionality.
Design Details
Measuring just under 8 metres wide by approximately 3.6 metres deep, the new orangery has a total base area of some 27 square metres.
The lovely subtle shade of Slipper White, from our unique colour palette, finished the timber joinery.
The Interior Transformation
Once the orangery’s structure was complete, the stage was set for the client’s flair for interior design to shine.
Urquhart Interiors brought their signature style to the space, curating a harmonious blend of textures, colours, and furnishings that perfectly complemented the architectural design.
Our client’s impeccable taste was reflected in every detail – from the elegant furniture that mirrored the orangery’s light and open feel, to the curated decorative elements that added personality and warmth to the space.
A really organised, helpful and professional company… We have the orangery extension we dreamed of and David Salisbury were with us every step of the way.
The finished orangery is more than just an additional room; it’s a transformative living space which has become the favourite room at home.
Whether it’s being used as a family dining room, a relaxing retreat, or a stylish area for hosting guests, this orangery exudes versatility and elegance.
