The owners of The Boat and Anchor, a popular family restaurant on the outskirts of Bridgwater, contacted us to design a replacement extension. The new extension needed to incorporate a large orangery with a built-in kitchen extension.
The orangery has five lanterns in the roof and the interior includes two sets of French doors and a set of bi-fold doors which link to the main restaurant. To the exterior there are three sets of French doors and two single doors to allow access to the gardens. The orangery creates a modern, light and airy room which provides guests with lovely views of the canal.
It is an ideal location for weddings, social events and parties, and has doubled the number of restaurant covers. The orangery also allows access to the gardens and patio areas which are fenced in, so as to be completely secure.
At the front of the building our client requested an entrance porch which has a large glazed roof with a front gable incorporating the company logo. The front entrance porch is used as a small, seating area, as an extension of the bar and a quiet area to relax.
When we were installing our bespoke product we had to ensure the site was clearly marked as a building site as the restaurant was open to the public throughout the construction process although most of the work was carried out in the mornings when the restaurant was open to just staff only. We ensured to maintain a neat and tidy working space as public safety was paramount at all times.
Our deliveries were made in several trips and stacked neat and tidy. We requested the roof glass to be held back, from the original delivery, because of space, and when delivered we were able to load straight on to the scaffold, which saved considerable time for our fitters.
David Salisbury provided our clients with a fresh new look for the restaurant and enjoyed working on a local project. Our clients are very pleased with the result and were very happy with the design and sales process. This beautiful country inn is situated near the market town of Bridgwater and is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding Quantock hills and countryside. The inn contains several feature areas in addition to the new orangery, making it one of Somerset's finest bed and breakfast destinations.
"The orangery has enabled us to treble our trade and the restaurant has become a lovely venue for private parties and weddings. We have been inundated with enquiries! The porch extension at the front has also become a sunny welcoming environment for our hotel guests."
