Working from the comfort of your Orangery
9 February 2018
As it is Friday and thoughts turn to the weekend, it got us thinking about those of us whom are lucky enough to be able to work at home.
According to the Office for National Statistics, well over four million now work regularly at home – which is approaching 15% of the entire UK workforce. Astonishingly, the figure has increased by some 45% since the turn of the century.
So this a trend that is clearly going to continue – being driven both by ever increasing improvements in technology but perhaps also by the time we take commuting. The average UK commute is now an hour (more in London) and one in seven of us spends more than two hours every day travelling to and from work (source: University of West England research).
One of the key parts of successfully working at home and ensuring a productive day’s work is to ensure you have an appropriate working space set up.
Introducing plants and being close to ‘green spaces’ has been proven to be a positive influence on work outcomes, in terms of reducing stress, fatigue and anxiety and increasing performance.
It made us think that perhaps spending some time working in your orangery or conservatory would be hugely beneficial!
Our award-winning structures – which include oak extensions and timber garden rooms – are designed primarily for enjoyment but also for use all year round. So whilst relaxing or entertaining guests might be their obvious function, imagine how productive you could be doing some work within one of these spaces?
Whether it be a chance for some peace and quiet for a bit of reading and research or the opportunity for some creative thinking, the trend for home working only seems set to continue. And if this can done from the unique indoors/outdoors position that you can only get from a conservatory or orangery, we’re all for it!
Indeed, some of the best new business start-ups were conceived from ideas commenced at home – so today we’re thinking about working from an orangery. Just like we do when we visit our London showroom!
