Inspirational Homes for Sport & Fitness

Like so many things this year, the English sporting Summer has been almost completely written off as a result of the continuing impact of Covid-19. With Wimbledon having been due to start this week, it’s certainly been making us feel somewhat nostalgic about the grass court tennis season, along with the absence of cricket and the many other sights and sounds of the sporting season.

So for a bit of added inspiration, we’ve decided to share some examples of orangery, conservatory and home improvement projects we’ve designed that overlook or encompass sports facilities. We’re already feeling inspired, having taken a look at some of these projects once again – hopefully you’ll feel the same!

Continuing the tennis theme, how about your very own slice of Wimbledon? We designed and installed a number of bespoke timber windows and bi-fold doors for this property in Oxfordshire. Can you imagine being able to open your windows and doors onto views of a grass tennis court? Time for a quick set or two of tennis before a glass of Pimms with your family looking on – sounds like the perfect Summer evening.

If tennis is not your thing, how about a swim first thing? This double lantern orangery in Surrey connects this house to its garden but, importantly, opens out onto the large outdoor swimming pool. This must have been the ideal location during the spell of warm weather we enjoyed during late Spring and into early Summer this year.

Of course, warmer temperatures cannot always be relied on here in the UK, so for guaranteed swimming all year round, an indoor pool is the solution. Here at David Salisbury, we have been very fortunate to work on some eye-catching pool enclosure designs, from this striking oak framed extension (above left) to the visually impressive conservatory, which houses the pool shown above right.

Whilst currently closed due to the Government’s Covid-19 guidelines, thinking back to the bespoke timber windows and conservatory link we designed around the pool at Cliveden Spa is always inspiring. This iconic venue remains one of the most prestigious projects in our growing commercial portfolio.

We have covered tennis and swimming, both indoors and out, separately – but what if a property combined both? This bespoke conservatory we designed for this stunning home in Cheshire provides views of the beautifully maintained garden, for which the swimming pool and grass tennis court are two of the more obvious outdoor attractions.
