Oak Garden Room with Mansard Roof in Somerset

The brief for this oak garden room, with its distinctive mansard style roof, was all about connecting this period Somerset home with the garden area and surrounding landscape.

With panoramic views of the countryside, the full height glazing around all 3 sides of the structure were an important characteristic of this design.

OAK Framed DESIGN

More than just creating an interior filled with natural light, perhaps the key feature of this garden room is the specification of the tiled roof, which perfectly complements the existing building and is best illustrated by some of the side-on photographs, shown above.

A pair of French Doors open out onto a paved patio area, allowing that sense of indoor/outdoor living that is currently so sought after and one of the many benefits that come with adding an orangery or garden room to your home.

The garden room itself takes its design cues from the original property, with the pitch of the mansard roof the same as that of the gable end that it connects to.

Similarly, the substantial overhead roof lantern adjoins the host building and mirrors the shape and footprint of the garden room itself.

The result is a wonderfully light and airy space, linking house and garden, to be enjoyed no matter the time of year.

This is one of a number of oak orangeries that, Simon Martin, David Salisbury’s most experienced sales designer has successfully designed in this area – with, by no coincidence, another oak structure installed for a different customer literally across the other side of the main road.
