What do you use your Orangery or Garden Room for?

We are always very thankful to receive a large number of enquires for our award-winning orangeries and garden rooms on a daily basis, but having been asked to design a bathroom into an orangery this week it made us reflect on the typical uses for these types of building extension.

Being a completely bespoke manufacturer, we do get some quite specific and unusual design briefs – one of our orangeries was even designed to include a shower for washing the owner’s dog after a walk on the beach!

Whilst a request like this is quite rare, we are more typically designing orangeries or conservatories as spaces for living and relaxing in every day.  Often with space for a sofa or favourite chair, being able to take in the views of your garden and surrounding landscape from a comfortable seat is almost a given requirement.

But we are used to creating functional spaces, as well as ones for enjoyment.  Designing an orangery kitchen extension has been a growing trend for a number of years, as we have written about in previous blogs.  With a new kitchen being the internal home improvement project that adds most value to a property, this development looks like being around for some time yet.

Another very common use relates to dining – allowing space for a breakfast or dining table means you can enjoy a meal from a wonderfully light and airy room: a safe equivalent of alfresco dining!

With the rise in flexible or home working set to continue, we are seeing an increase in demand for orangeries or garden rooms that create space for a study or home office.

Some larger projects often incorporate a multi-functional space, with a living room in one half and a kitchen or dining room in the other.  Our Case Studies are a great resource to review for ideas from previous projects.

Increasingly in demand this year has been requests to design a swimming pool enclosure.  Whilst this type of extension can place extraordinary demands on the wood used in its construction – due to the high humidity levels of the surrounding environment – our structures are designed to balance both the technical and aesthetic requirements.

So relaxing, living, dining, a kitchen extension, a swimming pool enclosure…the list goes on.

So what would you use yours for!?
