Situated on the edge of the Somerset levels, this much-loved family home already enjoyed a strong connection to its surroundings. What it lacked, however, was a space that truly made the most of its garden setting and supported modern family life.
The homeowners envisioned a luxurious extension that would create an open plan living area, a space that could evolve with family life and different social occasions, while enhancing the character of the existing property.
They turned to David Salisbury, to design a bespoke orangery and a luxury kitchen.

Designing a Bespoke Orangery
Working closely with our sales director Karen Bell, the design brief called for an extension that felt intentional rather than imposed.
Rather than dominating the original house, the new structure needed to sit comfortably alongside it, echoing its proportions and materials while introducing a lighter, more contemporary feel.
A bespoke painted timber orangery was designed to achieve precisely this balance. With its large roof lantern, generously proportioned windows and carefully considered detailing, the orangery acts as a natural continuation of the home.

The new orangery draws daylight deep into the property, transforming how our clients experience their home throughout the year. In summer, doors are thrown open to the garden; in winter, the orangery becomes a bright, sheltered retreat with uninterrupted views of the landscape beyond.
Alongside the orangery, David Salisbury also designed and supplied timber windows for the entire home, painted in the same shade of Pavilion as the orangery, to complete the overall home transformation.
A Space For Modern Living
Internally, the orangery was conceived as a flexible living environment — a room designed around real life rather than rigid function. Its proportions allow for dining, relaxing and entertaining without compromise, making it a natural focal point of the home.

Attention to detail defines the space: finely crafted timber joinery, elegant roof lantern glazing, and carefully aligned sightlines ensure the orangery feels considered from every angle. The result is a room that feels calm and effortless, yet undeniably special.
As the project progressed, it became clear that the success of the orangery presented an opportunity to take the design one step further.
Luxury Kitchen to Complete the Vision
Rather than introducing a contrasting design ethos, the decision was made to continue working with David Salisbury to create a luxury kitchen that would feel intrinsically connected to the orangery.
The kitchen was designed as an integral part of the overall space, not a separate element. Solid oak cabinetry, finished in the striking tone of India Ink, created visual continuity while allowing the kitchen to hold its own identity.

Thoughtful storage solutions, premium quality appliances from Fisher & Paykel and stunning quartz work surfaces ensure the space performs effortlessly on a daily basis.
A central island anchors the room, providing a natural gathering point for family and guests, with under counter perimeter lighting a show-stealer. Whether used for casual meals, entertaining or simply enjoying the views, it reinforces the kitchen’s role as the heart of the home.

A Home Transformed
Together, the orangery and kitchen have redefined the property. What was once a series of more traditional rooms is now a light-filled, cohesive living space that flows naturally between indoors and out.
For the homeowners, the transformation goes beyond appearance. The new spaces have changed how they live, host and relax — offering flexibility, comfort and a sense of openness that was previously missing.

The success of this home transformation was perhaps best encapsulated by this 5* Trustpilot review our customer kindly took time to share:
I recently invested in a beautiful orangery and kitchen extension with David Salisbury. The build quality is amazing and the finish is stunning. The design team were very accommodating…in order to make the absolute best of the space – particularly to the kitchen island which is now the social hub of the house. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending David Salisbury to anyone.
By approaching the orangery and kitchen as one unified vision, David Salisbury delivered a result that feels both timeless and entirely personal — a home enhanced not just by beauty, but by thoughtful design at every level.
