Carbis Bay Hotel's Luxury New Orangery

David Salisbury is proud to be partnering with the award-winning Carbis Bay Hotel & Estate, the luxury resort near St Ives in Cornwall which has been chosen to host this year’s G7 Summit, as part of the latest phase of their refurbishment and investment programme.

Our extensive experience in successfully designing and installing premium quality orangeries for exclusive hotels, wedding venues and restaurants, made the choice a natural one.

Occupying the most prominent position in Carbis Bay, the original building was constructed in 1894 by Silvanus Trevail, Cornwall’s most notable architect of the 19th Century. Nowadays, it has become the premier luxury hotel and spa destination in the South West.

The current conservatory, which occupies a prime position, offering panoramic views of the sea, was next in line for development as part of a significant refurbishment of the whole hotel, much of which had already been completed.

This glazed extension needed replacing, to bring it up to the superior specification of the rest of the estate. Most importantly, the requirement was to overcome the problem that is associated with older, uPVC conservatories – namely, that they are too hot in Summer and too cold in Winter.

Alongside this, the entrance and roof area of the Spa building would need updating in a complementary style, to present a uniform appearance across the sea-facing front of the hotel.

With modern glazing technologies and joinery techniques, bespoke orangeries have long since been designed for year-round enjoyment. Having been popular in residential settings for years, they are becoming increasingly popular in commercial applications, not least in the luxury hotel sector.

The process towards agreeing the design and scope of the project hinged on the quality of 3D design visuals, to provide clarity of concept, and, critically the ability to meet the challenging timeline.

The supplier of the new orangery had to be ready to start on site in January and be completed by Easter.

The design process was accelerated with regular communication key to ensure that we were able to react quickly to meet the evolving design requirements and agreement was reached between the hotel and David Salisbury just 5 weeks from the initial enquiry.

With our installation team having been on site since early January, in some pretty challenging conditions, progress is going well.

With the eyes of the world due to be on Carbis Bay during the G7 Summit, which takes place from 11^th -13^th June 2021, what better place to take in the panoramic views of the sea and the bay than from the new orangery and refurbished hotel facilities?
