Factory Visit Gives Real Insight Into A Business
22 February 2019
As a proud contributor to the British manufacturing sector, we spend a lot of our effort in refining the quality of our product, to ensure our award-winning orangeries and garden rooms remain the very best available on the UK market.
This manufacturing quality is the result of the right blend of skills, technology and a dedicated team of employees, all areas for which we continue to invest in. Interestingly, according to the Office for National Statistics, the UK manufacturing sector accounts for 70% of total business research & development (R&D) expenditure, certainly a finding that we can firmly believe given our levels of investment.
Whilst manufacturing has been a declining part of the British economy since the 1970’s, as a nation, we are still the eighth largest manufacturer in the world. Investment, innovation and process improvement are the common themes from those manufacturers that are currently thriving in what is a complex economic environment.
The opportunity to visit another market leader in their field, our partners Tom Howley, the luxury bespoke kitchen brand, was an insightful experience. Alongside our Manufacturing Manager Andrew Clarke, we visited the Tom Howley factory up in Glossop, not far from Manchester earlier this week.
Whilst obviously a different product, it was fascinating to hear how this business has grown in just over 15 years from a standing start to a position of market dominance. The setup of their factory with some of the machinery and processes is not dissimilar to ours – but what was identical was the excellence of the workforce and the quality of the finished product. Our thanks to the Tom Howley factory team for an excellent visit and we look forward to returning the favour in due course.
We like to think you can tell a lot about the culture of a business and the quality of their product and service by visiting the factory. That is why we offer this factory visit to our prospective customers – if you’re considering a home improvement project, we would very happy to welcome you to our factory where you can see for yourself the skill, efficiency and craftsmanship that goes into our orangeries, oak garden rooms and timber sash windows.
The factory tour is another step in allowing us to tell our story so you can feel entirely comfortable with David Salisbury as a business: a market leading British joinery manufacturer. Why not watch our latest Factory Video for a bit more of an insight?
