David Salisbury Environmental Issues
Caring For The Environment
David Salisbury Conservatories
takes pride in the following initiatives:
Recycling
 |
Recycling is a key part of David Salisbury
Conservatories
waste management policy of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. As we
are all aware, recycling is important to the future of our planet
and is essential to the cities around the world and to the people
who live in them for lots of reasons. One of these is that we
are fast using up the earths precious resources and many of
these resources are not renewable. It is also important to start
recycling as it takes considerably less energy to recycle an
existing product than to source and make one from new.
David Salisbury Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in many aspects of
our working day.
- Our Timber shavings and off cuts are sent to our boiler
room to generate heat for our paint plant and to heat the
factory.
- Where possible we recycle product packaging.
- Waste paper and printer toners are recycled
where possible.
- Over spray from our automated spray plant is filtered
and re-used.

About our Paint
All stains, paint primers and finishes are micro-porous allowing
the timber to breath naturally, because our paint is water based,
when it dries it releases water in the atmosphere, in opposition to
solvent based paint that releases solvents in the atmosphere when it
dries, making it better all round for our environment.
|
Renewable Energy
We are right now (March 2013) getting quotations for 150KW solar
panel array to go on the factory roof which has a large south facing
elevation. This installation will provide 20% of our power by
Autumn. Making our wooden
conservatories all the more environment friendly.
|
Certification Schemes
We specialise in using timbers selected for their
qualities of durability, strength and performance; giving our products
their timeless and classic appeal. Building in timber carries important
environmental responsibilities, and when properly managed is far preferable
to the use of aluminium or petrochemical-based plastics.
FSC®
 |
FSC® is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization
established to promote the responsible management of the world’s
forests. The FSC label provides a credible link between responsible
production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers
and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people
and the environment. All our timber is responsibly sourced
and a significant proporting is FSC certified. Timber
conservatories are much more environmentally responsible
that PVC which relies on non renewable hydrocarbons.
